Today, Arlington Christian School is made up of people who believe that the Christian life is both positive and practical, people who believe that life has eternal meaning only when lived according to the teachings of Christ, people who believe that true education has as much to do with developing proper attitudes as with developing academic competencies, people who believe that success is a journey, not a destination, and that every person needs to regularly experience success in order to develop the will to consistently strive for excellence in all areas of life.

Our Mission & Story

Since our inception in 1959, the mission of Arlington Christian School (ACS) has been to help children grow, as Jesus did, "in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man" (according to Luke 2:52.)

ACS was founded in the southwest section of Atlanta. At the time the school opened in the Ben Hill community, private education in the area was essentially limited to military boarding school for boys. Arlington opened with a new vision to provide private, Christian education beginning with grades 1-9, and a grade was added each year thereafter. The organization's first high school graduating class was in 1963.

At its inception, students were generally the children of professionals, white-collar managers, or from families which owned and operated businesses. Although enrollment continued to show steady growth, the Board of Directors faced significant capital improvement requirements as years went by.  That led to the Board's decision to change the location of the school, which carried with it a significant donation of acreage enabling the opening of a new facility in September of 1976. A gymnasium was added the following year.

In 1986, a proposal was made to Greater Atlanta Christian Schools (GACS), and a merger was completed. From 1987 to 1994, GACS and Arlington combined their strengths to form Greater Atlanta Christian at Arlington. In an effort to more effectively meet the needs of the Arlington School family and direct its continued improvement, Arlington Christian School re-established itself in 1994 as a separate independent Christian school.

Today, Arlington Christian School continues its mission. It is dedicated to training young people both in godly principles and in academic competencies. Arlington accepts scholars for admission without regard to race, sex, or national origin.  September 2019 marked 60 years of Arlington Christian School. As we continue GROWING STRONGER, GROWING DEEPER and SOARING HIGHER, we look forward to raising $1,000,000.00 to advance both capital and technological improvements so that our efforts of providing quality education in a Christian environment may be better strengthened.

Our Vision of Excellence

Our Vocation.  The conversation between scholar and teacher is the heart of our school; all that we do must be borne of and nourish that relationship.  We are called to challenge the minds, fire the imaginations, and train the bodies of the young people who have been entrusted to us; to enlarge their spiritual lives; and to increase their capacity for mutual and self-respect.  We intend to prepare them to learn confidently for the rest of their lives and to give generously and joyfully to others.  We can accomplish these things only if we keep our scholars safe and well while they are in our charge.

Our Obligation.  We must ask our young people what they believe in so they can know themselves in the world.  We must give them the tools of rigorous and passionate intellectual inquiry and self-expression so they can grow.  In our commitment to diversity, we must show our scholars how to be colleagues and friends so they can act out of respect and love.  We must lead them to distinguish right from wrong and then do what is right so they can be persuasive and courageous citizens.

Our Promise.  As a school community with these purposes and responsibilities, we will engage the larger communities of city, nation, and world of which we are a part.  We will serve our neighbors. We will live fully in our city—exploring its byways and playing over its terrain.  We will learn its history and traditions, and what it can teach us of the arts and sciences.  We will embody and celebrate its diversity.

Our Means.  The terms of our motto, hard work and moral excellence, are meant to strengthen us as we pursue the promise and joy of Arlington Christian School.  We ask Arlington families, alumni, and friends to join us in taking on this high calling.
