Transportation

Arlington has several bus routes serving the Tyrone/Sharpsburg, Douglasville, and the Southwest Atlanta area. Most students spend less than an hour going to or from school. For convenience, we try to arrange for pick-up points rather than picking up at individual homes. For more information on the exact bus routes, please contact Mrs. Martin at (770) 964-9871.

Every effort is made to keep transportation as convenient and as inexpensive as possible. Rates may change in keeping with actual cost incurred in providing the service. The rate for 2003-04 will be $950 for two-way service and $570 for one-way service on a no-cancellation basis. Occasional riders may purchase a bus pass from the school office for $4 a day or $2.50 one-way as needed.

Extended Learning

A program of after-school learning is offered to ACS students enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade. This enables many working parents to leave their children at school longer than regular school hours.  Students in the ACS Extended Learning Program receive instructional experiences in the areas of art, reading, math, music appreciation, computer and drama.

Students are supervised by ACS certified teachers in an atmosphere conducive to learning.   The charge for this program is $5 per hour or any part of an hour.  There is supervised learning until 6 pm.

If you are seeking an after-school day care, we utilize a program held at Cliftondale Community Center.  Arlington will provide bus transportation after school to this facility for a small fee.

For older students who cannot be picked up immediately after school, an upper school study hall is provided for $5 per hour.  This study hall is designed to provide supervision to insure the child's safety.

Enrichment Program

To enrich the basic academic program in the lower school, specialty teachers are provided for Spanish, Music, Art, Physical Education, Media and Computer Education. In addition to the lower school computer lab, each classroom is equipped with a multimedia computer and a range of CD-ROM programs.

Lunch

All students are provided with a 30-minute lunch period. Students have the option of either bringing their lunch from home or purchasing the lunch from a menu provided at school. Drinks and snacks may also be purchased.
