Cross Country

Here are some tips and advice for prospective Cross Country runners:

Start a training program in the summer to build your base for the Fall season. It would be good to keep a log to see how you have progressed by the end of the summer.
Be very consistent in your training to build your stamina gradually.
The less training you do in the summer, the more likely you will get injured during the season.
Try to do most of your running on grass, since that is the surface you will be competing on.
While training, don't always run in flat areas. Incorporate hilly areas in your training as well.
Definitely REST! Over-training can make you feel sluggish for several days. So it would be good to take a couple days off per week.

Follow these tips and you'll end the summer with a good foundation of endurance and strength, and you'll be ready to make the transition to Cross Country training and racing.
