High School - Grades 9-12
The importance
of the High School years cannot be exaggerated. It is a time for
building relationships, gaining knowledge and understanding, growing
spiritually, becoming independent, and preparing for college.
Arlington is a co-educational, Christ-centered, college-preparatory
day-school. At Arlington Christian School, the emphasis is upon
providing a healthy and well-balanced environment-one in which all
students can form worthwhile and meaningful lifelong goals.
Accreditation
High School is more than just a time of textbooks and studying.
Friendships, activities, working with teachers who care about you, and
feeling good about yourself are part of "growing up" at Arlington
Christian School.
Important for post-high school pursuits is the fact that Arlington is
accredited by both state and regional accrediting commissions. It is
accredited "with quality" by the Georgia Accrediting Commission, and
it is accredited by the respected Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (SACS). This stamp of approval guarantees that credits earned
at ACS will be accepted without question by colleges, universities,
and other high schools.
Spiritual Growth
Permeating life at Arlington is a commitment to be a Christian school.
Bible classes are a regular part of our academics, just like English,
Math, and Foreign Languages. These Bible classes are designed to
represent the Bible as God's message for today for standards and
values and to equip students with the tools needed for lifelong
personal study. Also, a focal point of each day is the chapel/assembly
time.
Academics
The daily schedule at ACS is built around a seven-period academic day,
plus lunch and chapel. Arlington requires that all students earn a
minimum of 25 Carnegie Units for graduation. Students may earn either
the college preparatory diploma or the general studies diploma.
Although emphasis in academics is placed upon the fundamentals
(Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), a variety
of courses are offered, including Drama, Band, Psychology, and Foreign
Languages (French, Latin, and Spanish). Frequent field trips broaden
understanding of subject matter, as does the optional bi-annual
European studies program.
Faculty
Standing behind the academic quality is a High School faculty with an
average of 11.8 years of teaching experience. Sixty-two percent have
earned a master's degree.
Student Body
Arlington Christian has a diverse make-up of students from South
Fulton, Douglas, Coweta, Fayette, Cobb, and Clayton counties.
College Preparatory
The academic structure of the High School program at ACS is to prepare
students for the rigors of college. About 90 percent of Arlington
students continue their education on the college level. Recent
graduates have received acceptance at such schools as:
