National Honor Society (NHS)
The National Honor Society recognizes
outstanding juniors and seniors at Arlington who have demonstrated the
traits of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. In
addition to the obvious prestige associated with membership, members
receive the seal of the National Honor Society on their diploma upon
graduation.
Students following a college preparatory
program who have completed their sophomore year with a cumulative
average of 3.0 or higher for grades 9 and up are considered to have
met the scholarship standard. In addition to meeting this scholarship
requirement, students applying for NHS recognition will be required to
compose essays on each of the three remaining characteristics. These
essays will be evaluated by a faculty committee, which will finalize
membership.
Continued membership in the society is
contingent upon maintaining the 3.0 cumulative average and remaining in
good standing with the school. Any member placed on behavioral
probation will automatically be dismissed form membership in the NHS.
If the student transfers to Arlington from
another school in which he/she was a member of the National Honor
Society, he/she will automatically become a member of the Arlington
chapter on presentation of a letter from the principal of his former
school, stating that he/she was a member in good standing at that school.
