About Arlington Christian School
Arlington's past has
been full of progressions and changes. In 1958, concerned local parents
saw the need for a school offering a college preparatory education.
Springing into action, they bought 22 acres of land and a building
by 1959. On September 14, 1959, the school opened with 140 students in
grades one through nine and a staff of twelve. Over the years, the
school expanded rapidly.
The first athletics
department included soccer, basketball, and cheerleading. Not only did
the athletics grow, but also music, art, and foreign languages.
With the school's rapid growth, more facilities were needed, which was
accommodated by a donation of land in south Fulton County. The present
facilities were built; and in September 1976, the doors were opened
at the new location. Two years later, a gymnasium was completed. In
1986, the school merged with Greater Atlanta Christian Schools. After seven years,
families desired a board and more local control of the school's
operations. On July 1, 1994, the school was officially chartered as an
independent entity. In subsequent years, the school has been
blessed with its highest enrollment since 1974, while maintaining
high academic standards and Christian principles.
In August 2000,
another great feat was accomplished as a high school hall was built in
only 12 months. The hall contains eight new classrooms, a computer and
science lab, and a high school office. Various renovations include new
carpet, paved tennis courts, an addition near the gym, a switch to
natural gas, a turning lane and a host of other projects.
The school touched
many lives as each commencement contributed to the story of the past
44 years.
